A symposium on "Renovascular hypertension" was organised on 5th Sept 2009 Dr Sandeep Saxena (DM nephrologist,Choithram hospital) spoke on "Pathophysiology and diagnosis of renovascular hypertension".He discussed about whom are the patient population in which we should suspect RVHT and what are the diagnostic modalities (doppler,MRI,Angiography,nuclear scan) and their sensivities and specificity in diagnosing renal artery stenosis.This session was chaired by Dr.Rajesh Bharani and Dr.Rubina Vora.
Next lecture was by Dr.Alkesh Jain(cardiologist at Gokuldas hospital).He spoke on "management of renal artery stenosis".It was discussed that not all renal artery stenosis needs intervention and not all renal interventions cure hypertension.We have to establish whether renal artery stenosis is significant and causing ischemia,whether kidneys are viable and functioning.This session was chaired by Dr.G.Kawthekar and Dr.Idris A Khan.
